Cancer Staging System – For Pancreas, breast, lungs, esophagus, and thyroid

If the cancer spread is found at only one place, then we can identify it as an early developed cancer. But if the areas of spread are more than one place, then we can identify them as highly developed cancer. By this method of staging system, we can get an assessment of the forecast the possibilities of healing after any cancer crosses certain stages. Staging also helps to decide what kind of treatment would be suitable and effective for any type of cancer. For example, breast cancer staging chart useful in breast cancer staging prognosis.

By applying staging system, we can assess all types of cancer types.  However, all physicians are trying to create one universal staging system for cancer all over the world. Categorization of cancer as per their characteristic features and the area of its development organ, they are staged as per AJCC (The American Joint Committee on Cancer) and the classification systems is known as TNM system classification. This method has many objectives. We can spot the spread of the cancer by its size and the level of its spread. Here T refers to tumor size, N refers to node i.e. the degree of spread of any cancer to the lymph nodes, and M refers to the occurrence of metastasis or cancer spread to the nearby organs.

TNM system has a number for each reference, for example T1 N0 M2. If any tumor is removed by any surgical process, then T would be represented as T0. N0 refers to no nodal spread of the cancer. M0 refers to no metastasis is present. By this way T1, T2, T3, and T4 represents the advanced stages of tumors. N1, N2, N3, and N4 represent the advanced stages of nodal spread of the cancer. M1, M2, M3, and M4 represent the advanced metastasis levels of cancer in the adjacent regions. Tx means the main tumor cannot be known well or established, Nx means the main node cannot be known well.
