Epilepsy Seizure Symptoms

Epilepsy Seizure Symptoms , symptom checker, whenever the electrical functions of the brain becomes abnormal and it becomes erratic and sporadic, then you know that it will eventually lead to seizures. Seizures are nothing but transmission of electrical brain impulses to your brain, that can lead to behaviour changes.

Epilepsy Seizure Symptoms In order for you to get a good amount of brain activity, then this electrical impulses would be very beneficial to you. Whenever you are under seizure, you would experience a delay would you change, and you would also undergo terrible jerky movements, that are also known as spasms, in your body.

The symptoms of seizures are actually jerking movements along the body, that is actually the result of brain impulses which are going to your brain, but not in a frequent and harmonic type of way, that is normally required in the functioning of your body as well as your brain. In such circumstances, also you would get a lot of spasms, as well as you would experience a lot of emotional changes, and many of the sensory changes that you would not be aware of. Most of the seizures actually happen at night, and many people are afraid of this fact of seizures happening at night.

Endoscopy Cancer Treatment

Endoscopy Cancer Treatment

Endoscopy cancer treatment is used to treat cancers, a clear visual examination is important for both diagnosis and to know the exact placement of the presence of cancer. In a few cases, just seeing the images of cancer would not give any clear idea about cancers. For many years, to view the inside organs small telescopes are used by inserting them via the body openings. For example, bronchoscopes are used to view the lungs by inserting them via nose opening or through the mouth and this tube will be inserted through the windpipe in the lungs and so they can be visualized from outside. To view inside of kidneys, cytoscope was used by inserting them through urethra and so urinary bladder can be visualized. The other scopes are laryngoscope and nasopharynoscope. The above said scope instruments are stiff in nature even if they are thin in structure. But in the later years, to do visual exams, flexible kind scopes were made. These flexible scope instruments are made up of fiber-optic materials and these instruments can bended. These instrument can be inserted via the body openings and they can bend and so exams are done. The common name of these scopes is endoscopy. In cancer treatments, for the diagnosis purpose endoscopies are very much helpful.

Endoscopy Stomach Cancer

Endoscopy cancer treatment is used also in stomach cancer patients have some common symptoms, such as abdominal pain, chest pain, nausea sensation, vomiting, heartburn, food swallowing problems, and sometimes bleeding. Apart from these symptoms, physician will ask some questions to confirm the disease history. After that an upper endoscopy will be ordered. Upper endoscopy is done to detect for any kind of cancers in the digestive tract.

Endoscopic Ultrasound Procedure

In this procedure of visual exam of cancer in the inside body cavities, a tube of endoscopy is inserted inside the body part to be visualized through a body opening. This endoscope is attached to an ultrasound equipment and so images are obtained simultaneously. Any presence of can be visible clearly in the endoscopic ultrasound method. Endoscopy cancer treatment with ultrasound is a very useful method for the diagnosis of cancer with images.

All I want for Christmas... is a cure for cancer

Like most children, I loved Christmas growing up. It was a magical time and the anticipation of receiving all the gifts you asked for was fantastic. Christmas took on a bit of a somber tone for me when my grandfather passed very close to the holiday when I was 10. It still was magical, but just a smidge of sorrow was mixed in too. Of course as I grew older, stopped believing that Santa was real and generally shed that wide-eyed, glistening innocence of my childhood... Christmas changed a bit too.

I know that some people just love this time of year. As the year draws to a close and I start to focus on the new year that is coming... I find myself thinking about people that I miss, friends and family members that may have passed on during the year... and it gets sad for me.

I know that cancer isn't the only disease in the world that wrecks lives and changes the trajectory of life for those afflicted and affected. However, cancer is so far-reaching and widespread that it is difficult to take two steps without running into someone whose life has been affected and changed by it. Right now, I have a list of people that I pray for daily because they or someone they love is fighting this disease. The list seems to grow each month and it bothers me that we just don't have enough answers.

So... for all of you with the hotline number to Santa Claus... can you help me get a wish to him?

All I want for Christmas is a cure for cancer.

I really have been a good girl this year... Promise.

Ultrasound Cancer Treatment

Ultrasound Cancer Treatment

Ultrasound cancer treatment is an unhurt and causing little pain or no pain visual examination method. Any body part does not need to be invaded to use ultrasound device in the patient's body. Only sound waves enter into the body while doing this procedure to detect any cancer in the patient. A jelly like material is applied over the surface of the body in the specific part of the body where the cancer is suspected and then high frequency sound waves are passed via skin into the body on the internal organ where cancer is suspected. The transmitted sound waves would revert back if any cancer obstruction is found on their way inside the body. Due to the obstruction of the cancer, the sound waves start to bounce off. This action is recorded and monitored in a computer screen to know the exact placement of the cancer. Any masses or tumors of malignant nature can be traced off using ultrasound.

Ultrasound for Ovarian Cancer

Many women patients with ovarian cancer could not even feel the presence of cancer until it is found accidentally or during any other physical exams. Ovarian cysts of benign in nature are commonly occuring in women. It is not easy to accurately doing visual examination in the interior part of the ovary. Generally, some symptoms will be helpful in assessing ovarian cancer, such as pelvic or abdominal pain, bloating sensation, hard to consume food materials, and other urinary symptoms. In this situation, ultrasound device can be used and the presence and placement of ovarian cancer is identified. Ultrasound cancer treatment is also useful in detecting breast cancers as a secondary method apart from a mammogram study.

Breast Cancer Screening Ultrasound

Breast cancer is a very common abnormality all over the world in the recent days. Breast cancer arises from the breast tissues, specificially from the inner cover of the milk tubes or in the milk-supplying tubes called as lobules. Ultrasound usage in the breast cancer is very useful method to detect this. Other than this a mammogram test is also done to confirm the presence of cancer in the breasts. Ultrasound cancer treatment is also useful in detecting gallstones, thyroid gland or parathyroid gland tumors too. Pelvic cancer or prostate cancer also can be diagnosed using ultrasound method.

MRI Scan for Cancer Detection

MRI Scan for Cancer

CT scan is less perefect visual examination method comparing magnetic resonance imaging method, in short is it called as MRI. Even if the images of an MRI scan looks like CT scan, x-ray application is not used in this test. Body vibrations are recorded by this equipment by utilizing effective magnetic field. Greatly useful body part images are taken by MRI device by assessing the response of the magnetic field and the images can be monitored in a computer screen.

Advantages of MRI and Cancer Detection
The main beneficial factor of MRI scan is that it is handled without any x-ray application in it like other scans. In CT scans, only cross section images can be taken, but in MRI, images from all sides, such as frontside, backside, and right to left side images can also be captured. A physician can monitor a patient's body part in all angles in MRI scanning. The quality of the image is greater than a CT scan.

Disadvantages of MRI

Some patients who are already wearing pacemakers for their heart disabilities or any other devices, such as pain pumps may be affected by MRI scanning. The reason is the usage of intense magnetic field in the MRI scan. Other than this bad effect, MRI does a great job in medical visual examination in the medical field. Ultrasound is the next topic we are going to deal about next. It is a noninvasive scanning method for visual examinations for diagnosing diseases.

CT Scan to Detect Cancer

CT Scan to Detect Cancer

CT scan to detect cancer is a revolution in the medical field in the recent years. CT scans are helpful in visually examinining the whole body that the parts that are even difficult to view using other visual examination methods. It creates great quality images of the patient's body part that are helpful in diagnosing the disease exactly. They can not only create quality images, but also very clear images when the patient is drunk a contrast material before the visual exam. This is a better test than other visual exam tests, such as x-ray test, angiogram, and nuclear scans. We will learn about MRI or magnetic resonance imaging technique later in the next post.

CT Scan and Lung Cancer

CT scan machine does its great job of scanning on the area of suspicion of disease or pain, for example, lungs, chest, abdominal areas or brain. It covers the x-ray picture of a separate thin area of tissue one by one and it can be monitored in a computer screen as slice images as cross-section image of the body part in slices. This kind of visual examination is very useful to analyze the area of the disease or what kind of disease in a particular area of the body part. For example, when CT scan is done in the lungs of the patient suspicious for lung cancer, the images of lungs can be monitored in slices in the monitor and so the presence of lung cancer is traced easily and clearly. CT scan to detect cancer in any part of the body is a vital test nowadays.

CT Scan Cancer Risk

There is one drawback in the CT scan method is over exposure of x-rays to any particular body part for the diagnosis of disease. CT scan to detect cancer can be done only in the patients who are clearly suspicious for cancer for the diagnostic purpose of the area of the disease.

Thanksgiving Eve 2011...

OMG... I feel awful. I feel sick. I am weak and a little wobbly. And more than anything... I am only slightly upset about it. Its Thanksgiving. Well, the night before Thanksgiving and I am reflecting as I reposition my heating pad on my back, and try to pretend that the smell of Ben Gay isn't giving me a headache. I feel bad because my menstrual cycle showed up yesterday. And... I'm more than annoyed that it came back less than a month after it left.

What is this? Two months in a row? Again with this madness? *deep sigh*  I know some of y'all are pretty young and haven't hit a stage in your life where you no longer have a cycle but while I cried and was upset when I had my ovaries put to sleep three years ago when I started chemotherapy... *looking around sheepishly*  I LOVED not having a cycle for two years.  Freaking loved it.

Man!! You don't realize how much of a pain in the behind all of this cramping and back ache and bloating and PMS is... until you don't have it. *sigh* Oh well... I still love being a girl.

This post was supposed to be about what I am thankful for this year... and I suppose that as nutty and crazy as it seems, especially since I feel so freaking awful, I am thankful for my menses. Because it is normal for a woman my age to have them. Normal. That's what I am now. I am normal. Post breast cancer, regular ol' broke chick normal. I go on bad dates. I eat great food. I laugh a lot. I have a crush on a cute boy. I send texts. I write in my journal -- well, not exactly my journal, but I write down my thoughts. I look for a job, like everybody else in the unemployed world. I drink when I'm out with my friends -- or when I'm just feeling like a little something at home. I watch the Food Network. I am normal.

Isn't that just a blessing? Three years ago, I was fighting to be brave. I was "Weeping Wanda" who cried pretty much all day long. Now, I laugh more than I cry. I tell myself corny knock-knock jokes and fall out laughing as though Bernie Mac was giving me a personal comedy show. I worry about wearing the right shoes, or the right dress... which earrings to wear... all of that silly stuff that just fills up your day. I do that now. I don't have to go to the hospital every few days. I could go on and on.. Granted, normal is different now but it is mundane, just like every one else's life.

I think that finding normal has made me the happiest that I've been in three years. And for that... I am thankful and grateful.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone. I am grateful and thankful for your presence and your support. You rock!!

Angiography Scan for Cancer

Angiography Scan

Angiography scan is a visual examination technique used to identify cancers in the blood vessels in the interior organs. This method is very much useful in diagnosing cancers and treating cancers. Contrast materials are also used to track the blood vessels in angiography sometimes. X-rays as well as catheters are also used with CT scans to produce images. Any blood vessels in any part of the body can be visually examined by this scanning method, such as liver, brain, etc. This scan test confirms whether the patient needs surgery or not. Images of slices or cross-section can be obtained from angiogram. A contrast dye is injected into any vein and so the travel of the dye is monitored in a screen to find any abnormalities in its path and this method of angiogram is called as venogram. When arteries are monitored using contrast dye that method is called as arteriogram.

Uses of Angiography Image

Any blood vessels, such as arteries and veins can be examined using angiography scan. Presence of any cancer in the blood vessels can be easily identified using this method. Angiogram is also used in treatments using chemotherapies in cancer patients.  The chemotherapy drug is delivered through a catheter tube to the tumor directly from the outer sources by placing it on a particular blood vessel near the tumor. Using angiography images, physicians can easily assess the size of the tumor.

Angiogram Risk

Angiography scan is very much useful technique even though it has some risks. The patients do angiograms sometimes get infection, more bleeding , damage to the kidney, and some allergic reactions after the application of this scan. But in cancer treatments using chemotherapy drugs, the usage of angiogram is very effective.

What I'm reading now: The good girl's guide to bad girl sex

I have a personal theory about why nerds make good partners. Besides the obvious (assumed) reasons -- they are smart, they will be loyal, they probably will make good money -- my theory that nerds make good partners is based solely on the notion that nerds know that they are nerds. The bad boy and the player... know that they are attractive. They work diligently to look great, to be smooth talkers and to dress the part. The drive the right cars (or motorcycles) and they tend to have this delicious swag that makes you catch your breath when they pass you by. For those guys, the work goes into the appearance.

Nerds are different. Nerds know that they aren't the flyest guy in the spot. Nerds are naturally inquisitive and they tend to be studious. They apply the same enthusiasm they have for a new subject to someone they are interested in. They learn you. From head to toe, inside out... they figure out what you like, what makes you smile and they work to perfect those transitions so that even if they aren't the flyest guy, they know that they can make you happy.

I've also learned, that nerds tend to apply that same fastidiousness to their sex lives. *eye brow raised*  Yep, I'm telling y'all the truth right now -- so take notes.

Next time you're hanging over your favorite nerd's house, check out his library. If he's really a true nerd... somewhere in there (might be hidden from view) there will be books, videos and other tutorial aids that will help him figure out how to get YOU where you want to go. Ever hooked up with a guy that you weren't completely sure about? He was nice... but something was sort of missing? And then, he kissed you, or he brought you your favorite flowers, took you to your favorite restaurant... complimented your new lipstick, hairdo... something small but it was powerful? He may have complimented you with a sincerity that made you blush. And if you stuck around with that nerd, perhaps... he blew your socks off when you got to the bedroom. You were sitting there, curled in a fetal position with your thumb in your mouth trying to figure out when Clark Kent turned into Superman?

(sigh)  Yep. I've been there. :)  *That's why I like nerds*
So... for the nerdy girls out there -- though with girls, its not usually that we're nerds as much as we're stuck in the "good girl" zone. Personally, I think that whole damn term "good girl" needs to die. Like now. At any rate... if you're stuck in the good girl zone... and you're wondering how it is that so many chicks just seem to naturally connect with their inner sex-pot... well, you need to pick up this book.

"The Good Girl's Guide to Bad Girl Sex" written by Barbara Keesling.. is actually pretty good. (laughs) I bought it on the sale rack at some book store just because the title was hilarious to me. But... the author has done  great job of breaking a lot of things down. She addresses how to dress, how to walk, how to talk and she also gives detailed (though not embarrassing) instructions on how to get to know yourself.

I highly recommend picking up a copy of this little book. It has some good stuff in it. Being a breast cancer survivor, some days its a challenge to connect with my inner sex kitten. Sharing my body with someone has so many emotional mines that it can be really hard to keep my head in the game.  Literally. So, I read books like this, to reconnect with my body and stay intune with my innate sexiness. Despite what happened to my body on this journey to wholeness... I am still a very sexual person. (Plus, my hormones won't let me forget it even if I want to try) I connect with my inner nerd and I'm trying to be Lois Lane for my next Clark Kent... I can't be the only one curled up with my thumb in my mouth.

**Note:  Nerds and shy guys are not the same thing. A nerd can be outgoing or shy... if you've got a shy nerd on your hands, you might have to work a little bit harder to get him out of his shell. Personally, I don't date shy men. Its too frustrating for me. But, plenty of my friends are shy and date shy guys... so don't discount the shy fellow. Just find a way to connect with him and watch him blossom under your attention. **

Chapters:
Bad girls feel good about being bad
Bad girls have sex on the brain
Bad girls dress the part
Bad girls walk the walk
Bad girls know how to talk sexy, in and out of bed
Bad girls know their bodies
Bad girls touch and tease
Bad girls love to climax
Bad girls play with toys
Bad girls break all the rules

I'm telling you... its a good book. I am currently trying to figure one thing out... and when I do... watchoutdernow!!

Hernia Symptoms | Symptoms Of Hernia

Hernia Symptoms | Symptoms Of Hernia, symptom checker, hernia actually, because of the fact that the small intestine on your body goes inside the scrotal sac, which results in a lot of pain, and you would be always exhausted as well as feeling a lot of pain in the lower region of your body.

Hernia Symptoms | Symptoms Of Hernia Hernia can actually happen because of excessive exercise on the lower parts of your body, and in most of the cases, it happens to people who do excessive exercise on the lower part of your body, not necessarily in a gym, but also in daily life. In most cases, money would be accompanied by a growth of lymph nodes in your body, and that can also mean a lot of pain for you.

The sure shot symptoms of hernia, is that you would experience a lot of intestinal pain, as well as pain below the abdomen, and you would feel a protrusion coming out from the groin region, and many other accompanied factors that can tell you that you have hernia. In order for you to treat hernia well, you would have to go to a surgeon, and surgery is needed for them to stitch up the lower end of the scrotal sac and push the intestine in the intestinal sac.

More About Hernia Symptoms | Symptoms Of Hernia

Mostly all the Hernia start off, as an unnoticeable breakthroughs of the tissues. They just appear as small chunks under the skin, which might be as small as a marble. The starting of Hernia is generally painless. But with time, the size increases as the pressure on the internal walls increases and it turns out to be pretty painful.

Cancer Imaging Methods

Cancer Imaging Techniques

After a physician checks laboratory tests to detect cancer, then the physician will confirm the presence of any abnormalities by using by physical exam and then decide to do imaging method. The patient's body is visualized inside using some equipments via any of the body holes by inserting the equipment. Surely this imaging method will show the exact placement of the tumor inside the body. Using these images, a doctor can judge what is the treatment procedure to be followed and also the size of the cancer and the depth of its spread of the cancer to the adjacent organs. So cancer imaging method is vital in to detecting cancers.

Cancer X-ray Images

If the patient's complaint is pain in any area, then the doctor may order an x-ray study to be done to evaluate the pain in the area. Any cancer can be identified using x-ray method in any part of the body. Digestive tracts can be easily visualized using x-rays. Endoscopy is also used to visualize the upper and lower intestinal tract. Lung x-rays are done to visualize the cancer in the lungs and kidney x-ray study is done to confirm tumor in the urinary tract. The study of images using x-rays is called radiology and this is one of the old method in the medical field. X-rays generally give a vague idea about the presence of any abnormality inside the body.

In our body dense organs like bones can only absorb x-rays inside to give an image. Before x-ray study is done, the patient will have to swallow a liquid called barium and this method of barium consumption is called barium swallow method. The travel of the liquid inside the body is followed and so the tumor is tracked in the path of it. Cancer imaging is very useful method.

Nuclear Medicine for Cancer

In the nuclear medicine method, the visual examination is done by using radioactive isotopes. These ionizing materials will release gamma rays and so they can produce photo images on a detector. Radioactive materials are given to the patient via an injection and these radioactive materials start to confluence in the area of cancer. Some normal cells in the body absorb these materials, but not cancer cells, and so form "cold spots" in some areas and so cancer is confirmed. If the cancer spread in the bones, cancerous bones absorb radioactive materials to form "hot spots" to show the presence of cancer in the bones. We will read more about cancer imaging in the next post.

Blood Stool Test to Detect Cancer

Blood Stool Test

If anyone found blood in his or her blood stool while excretion, it should be considered as a sign for some abnormality in the intestinal tract. Blood stool test is necessary in this condition. The patient can find blood in his excreta while bowel movement, but it may not even be seen by the eyes. The color of bleeding may be dark red in color in general cases, but the color may differ. It may be maroon or black in color like tar. Even bleeding may appear even in harmless conditions, sometimes it may be the sign for cancer in the intestinal tract and so it should be analyzed in the laboratory.

Occult Blood Test Stool

The stool occult blood test is also called as fecal occult blood or FOB. This test should be done when the blood is found visibly in the stool for any suspicion for cancer present in the intestinal tract. This test will confirm of any presence of hidden blood in the human feces. This checks for any presence of globin or any other factors like transferrin etc.

Home Test for Blood in Stool

We can do blood stool test in home by using home-use kit for testing it. By carefully observing for any blood in the stool at home and then doing this test will reveal the abnormalities in the intestines, such as any abnormal polyps or any malignancies inside. Every person should do this test after the age of 50 and this is recommended by American Cancer Society. After analyzing stool examination, physician will order for barium x-ray test to examine the upper and lower intestinal tract. Sometimes bleeding may cause due to the presence of any hemorrhoids too, although it may be the sign of any benign tumors or a polyp. So home test for blood in stool is very useful.

Prolonged stress can cause diarrhea

Health Net: Diarrhea can indeed be caused by various factors ranging from ourselves or the environment. But without realizing that ongoing stress can also make people turned out to be diarrhea.

It may just happen and sometimes people call the nervous stomach. Nervous stomach is the source of a disturbance in the stomach which can be caused by stress or nervousness.

Stress is owned by someone will trigger some chemicals such as serotonin, which affects the brain when you're anxious and could alter the movement of the bowel so that the trigger diarrhea, as quoted by CNN on Monday November 21, 2011.

In addition, when people stress the brain will release more acid into the stomach. This is what affects a disturbance in the stomach such as stomach pain, stomach feels sore to cause diarrhea.

When someone can not manage the stress they face, then this will induce the occurrence of diarrhea in which stool becomes more liquid and loss of body fluids.

If not handled properly then the body will lose a lot of fluid that can lead to dehydration. The danger of dehydration can cause kidney failure and neurological damage.

The perspective of what freedom costs...

We've all heard (or said) that freedom isn't free. Somewhere, someone is paying the price for the freedom that we may take for granted. This saying is usually said in appreciation of the sacrifices that our military makes on our behalf. And they do deserve our compassion, support and understanding. No doubt.

But, we can also look at what we gain when we lose some (or all) of our freedom. A prison isn't just a place with four walls and guards. Some of us are imprisoned by our minds, our circumstances and our bodies. The freedom of believing in yourself, of having the opportunity to follow your dreams or to simply walk on your own, or raise your arms over your head... cannot be underestimated.

I am coming to a place of peace in the journey with breast cancer. I do still have questions and moments when I look around and just wonder ... what in the hell? But, peace is coming to me and settling on me. I have moments when I look at a commercial or a television show and I watch a young woman do something as simple as lift her hands over her head and perhaps sway to some music... and I sigh. I took that simple motion for granted my entire life... until after I had my mastectomy and I couldn't reach up with my left arm. Today, my range of motion is much better, though I have to constantly massage and exercise that arm. I can lift both arms over my head but its not quite the same. The motion is not as fluid and I "feel" it more. But... I am free from cancer. So, the price of my freedom was losing a bit of my gracefulness and a smidge of my motion. Was it worth it? Absolutely.

I often have moments when I look at women with full breasts, or deep cleavage and I mentally flashback to my days of larger breasts and exorbitant cleavage (laughs). I sigh sometimes and I think about where I am today. My boobies are still a nice size -- do not feel sorry for me -- but these boobies are not the same boobies that I had. I took that freedom for granted. I didn't appreciate all the ways that my breasts helped me to feel like me. I always just knew that when I had kids I would breast feed and then after that, I would consider a breast reduction. And today... even if I could have kids, I can't breast feed. But... I am free from cancer. So, the price of that freedom was the loss of one breast completely and the reduction of the other. I lost a bit of my curves in profile and also the frustration of not being able to fit certain clothes because of my breasts. Was it worth it? Was the price for my freedom too high? No. It was not.

Today, I read a blog post written by an incarcerated murderer. He is in a program for incarcerted men that teaches them technology and partners them with a company in the Silicone Valley so that they can learn about technology and possibly gain employment after their release. These men are now embarking on a blog journey to share their stories with the world. While I'm not the bleeding heart softy that many people are, I do believe that you can learn from a variety of sources. The post that I read today was about freedom. "Doin' time or usin' time"  And the post actually opened my heart today and reminded me that it all is about perspective. While I do not sympathize with this man... he took someone's life and for me, its just hard to come back from that... I do appreciate that he is learning that the price he's paying for that brutality is freedom. The same freedom that he took from someone else.

Today, I am accepting that while my body is not the same and never will be the same... the price that I paid for my freedom wasn't too high. Wasn't too much. And if I were faced with the same choices, I would make them all over again. I would cry in the same places, feel the same heartbreak and accept that sometimes you have to give something up, to gain something better. Freedom ain't free.

Do not allow the prison of your mind, your circumstances or your body... keep you from loving your life, from living your life and from being a blessing to someone else's life. Pay the necessary price for your freedom... and then USE IT!

My things have been returned...

A few weeks ago I wrote about my frustration and disappointment that my purse and my shoes were "lost" in the back of a cab. You can read the story here:    http://greenhillgoldman.blogspot.com/2011/10/on-faith-blood-and-being-completely.html

Well, this is a praise report. I have had all of my things returned. Every single thing. My purse was returned in its entirety and my shoes. While I still do not know why the cab driver chose to leave me stranded on a cold, rainy night I am truly grateful that my prayers were answered and he turned in my things. My faith in people has been restored.

While I was at the Taxicab Commission's office to pick up my items, I had a brief conversation with the lady who held my items for me. She offered a theory as to why the cab driver left me. She told me that some of the drivers are afraid of patrons who need to stop at an ATM or who are going a long distance. She told me that many of the drivers believe that if a patron needs to stop, they will run and not pay. Or they may be setting them up to be robbed. Though she did not mention race in her explanation but I still feel that race played a part in this situation.

I've had my things for over a week now and it took me some time to gather my thoughts about this situation and come to a place of peace and not anger. I suppose I should not presume that just because I was well dressed and coming from a place as fancy as the Kennedy center, that someone could not look at me and see a criminal. I sort of understand that. But I find it hard to imagine that if I were a different race heading across the bridge into Northern Virginia and had made the same request to go to an ATM to get cash so that I could pay the driver... I really doubt that I would have been left on that cold corner. But since I am not a different race and I don't live in Northern Virginia, I can only accept that for whatever reason... that cab driver did not want to take a chance on me. I suppose that he didn't realize that as a single woman traveling alone at night... I too was taking a chance on him.

Look, I know that we live in a world where people will try to take advantage of you. I know that probably better than many people do. I struggled with whether to deal with this gentleman directly. While at the office, the lady gave me a copy of the form that the driver completed when he turned in my things. The form had his real name and his full home address. She gave it to me when I mentioned that I asked him to stop so that I would have enough money to pay him and when she realized that he wasn't paid she offered me his address so that (if I chose to) I could send him money to pay him.

*slow blink*

I smiled sweetly, folded the paper and put it in my purse. My immediate thoughts were far from sending him a thank you note and some cash to cover the few blocks that he drove me before leaving me stranded and helpless late at night on a DC street corner. But after thinking about it for some time, and praying about it daily... I have decided that what I can do is to call it even.

I thank him for returning my things. He did not have to do that. But that is as far as I can go. I am a work in progress, I will admit that. Perhaps I should send him a few dollars and a note to say thank you for the effort of returning my things. I'm still not there yet. When I recall how I felt that night, and how sick and anxious I was that following week... and how I had to change my travel plans because my identification was now missing... there is still anger there. I'm just not completely there yet.

If more punishment is due him or to me, karma will have to take care of that. At this point, I simply wish him peace and blessings and some understanding that not every person is a criminal trying to take advantage of him.

Returned:  One vintage purse given to me by my mother.
Returned: All contents of said purse, including makeup, cellphone charger and ear buds.
Returned: One fabulous pair of Betsey Johnson shoes.
Restored: My faith that people do have some compassion for other people.

I am blessed. And I am thrilled that I have my things back. God remains a wonder to me.
