Blood Stool Test to Detect Cancer

Blood Stool Test

If anyone found blood in his or her blood stool while excretion, it should be considered as a sign for some abnormality in the intestinal tract. Blood stool test is necessary in this condition. The patient can find blood in his excreta while bowel movement, but it may not even be seen by the eyes. The color of bleeding may be dark red in color in general cases, but the color may differ. It may be maroon or black in color like tar. Even bleeding may appear even in harmless conditions, sometimes it may be the sign for cancer in the intestinal tract and so it should be analyzed in the laboratory.

Occult Blood Test Stool

The stool occult blood test is also called as fecal occult blood or FOB. This test should be done when the blood is found visibly in the stool for any suspicion for cancer present in the intestinal tract. This test will confirm of any presence of hidden blood in the human feces. This checks for any presence of globin or any other factors like transferrin etc.


Home Test for Blood in Stool

We can do blood stool test in home by using home-use kit for testing it. By carefully observing for any blood in the stool at home and then doing this test will reveal the abnormalities in the intestines, such as any abnormal polyps or any malignancies inside. Every person should do this test after the age of 50 and this is recommended by American Cancer Society. After analyzing stool examination, physician will order for barium x-ray test to examine the upper and lower intestinal tract. Sometimes bleeding may cause due to the presence of any hemorrhoids too, although it may be the sign of any benign tumors or a polyp. So home test for blood in stool is very useful.
